What is Burradoo Park Farm?

Burradoo Park Farm is a regenerative agritourism destination located in the NSW Southern Highlands. It comprises a 250-hectare (600-acre) regenerative farm, education hub and farm-to-table agritourism precinct designed to reconnect people with how food is grown and experienced.

The offering spans education, dining, walks, immersive tours, Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden, pop-ups and display animals. BPF was founded by Annie Cannon-Brookes and SMART Collective.

When was Burradoo Park Farm established?

Burradoo Park Farm is an amalgamation of multiple agricultural properties, some of which have been farmed since 1823. Burradoo Park Farm opened its gates to customers as a regenerative agritourism precinct in 2026.

Is BPF for profit?

Burradoo Park Farm is fundamentally a community‑driven initiative, not designed with profit as the primary objective.

The aim is threefold:

  • to improve the health and resilience of the natural environment, including sharing research about what methods are most impactful;
  • to demonstrate that regenerative farming is a viable alternative to conventional industrial farming; and
  • to attract and educate the next generation of farmers who are curious, environmentally responsible and commercially astute.

Over time, we hope that innovations developed and shared at BPF will create value, and plan for much of the returns to be reinvested back into the project.

Is Burradoo Park Farm accessible for those who require assistance?

All visitors are welcome and we are committed to creating an inclusive, accessible experience. While you will see the authentic rhythms of farm life in action, including operating trucks and machinery, we have thoughtfully designed our visitor areas, walks, immersive tours and activities to support people with restricted mobility, disabilities and diverse needs, wherever possible. This includes accessible pathways to key spaces, flexible program delivery, clear signage, controlled truck and machinery movements, and a team trained to provide respectful, practical assistance.

In saying that, we are a working regenerative farm and weather patterns can make certain sections of the farm challenging to navigate for certain individuals. We encourage guests to let us know their specific access needs in advance so we can tailor the experience to the best of our ability and ensure everyone can safely and comfortably enjoy time on the farm.

Can I bring my pet?

We love all furry friends but as we are a working farm with livestock and biosecurity requirements, pets are permitted onsite but must remain on leashes and are restricted to certain areas, which are clearly signposted.

Please be mindful of other patrons, especially young families, and ensure that your pet remains on a lead and under control at all times. We appreciate your cooperation - this helps us to protect our animals, meet biosecurity controls, and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all visitors.

Registered assistance animals that are clearly identified with working jackets or an animal ID are, of course, welcome to support their owners as required ensuring it is safe to do so.

Yes, interactive maps are available on our website, which can be downloaded. Physical maps are also available onsite, along with infographics about the farm’s operations, which are placed at various points around the farm.

Where are the toilets located?

We have toilets located next to the restaurant (male, female and universal access), toilets located between the playground and The Farmhouse (male and female) and 6 unisex composting toilets in The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden behind The Potter’s Shed.

Please help us to be water wise by turning off any taps and refraining from flushing wipes and other items as they can cause issues with our compost toilets and septic system.

Yes, BPF is suitable for all ages, however visitors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

What happens if it is raining (bad weather, etc.)?

What is available in the gelato store?

Our pop-up gelato store is inspired by the seasons and dedicated to exploring what’s possible when vegetables are treated as the foundation, not the garnish, of frozen dessert.

We transform produce into refined, small-batch gelato using 100% fresh fruits and vegetables. Gelato can be purchased in cones, cups or takeaway containers, in single or multiple scoops.

Is the gelato made using ingredients from Burradoo Park Farm?

Our vegetable-inspired gelato concept is still under-development with flavours guided by what’s in season and what’s in abundance.

While we continue to test and refine various flavour profiles and textures, and scale up our own produce production, we’re sourcing Australian fruits and vegetables from a trusted third party provider.

We recommend completing a self-guided walk or pre-booking a guided walk to understand the property before spending some time wandering around to visit areas of your interest. If you wish to dive deeper, there are pop-ups, talks and immersive tours available.

Can I pick my own vegetables / produce from The Market Garden, Flower Farm or The Orchard?

No, produce and flowers can not be harvested directly by visitors. There will be a range of seasonal produce available to purchase at The Farmhouse and cut flowers also available at The Flower Shop.

In the future, we plan to offer special experiences where visitors can join our farm team to pick produce as a booked experience. Numbers will be limited to ensure visitor safety and satisfaction as well as minimising the impact on the farm. Details will be listed on our website and socials as they become available.

Responses

What cattle and sheep breeds do you have at Burradoo Park Farm?

We run a mixed herd of trade steers ranging from Angus, Hereford, Murray Grey and Speckled Park. We also have a handful of Scottish Highland cattle.

Our flock of sheep is made up of WiItipolls for breeding purposes. Their docile nature and ability to wilt their wool makes them productive and relatively easy to manage.

How many animals do you have per grazing area?

We closely plan and manage our animal density to ensure appropriate amounts of feed, water and space requirements for the type and age of our livestock. Animal density varies by paddock and animal type, as well as with the seasons, rainfall and local conditions.

Crickets are small - do you really get much protein from them?

Yes. Although individual crickets are small, they are very dense in nutrients. Crickets contain roughly 60–70% protein by weight, along with essential amino acids, iron, zinc and vitamin B12. Because they are so efficient at converting feed into protein, crickets can produce significantly more protein per kilogram of feed and land than traditional agriculture.

Burradoo Park Farm is interested in insects like crickets as a promising way to produce high-quality protein using fewer natural resources.

Are crickets available to purchase?

Currently, crickets are not available for purchase but visitors can book into our free talk to learn about the future of food and to enjoy a delicious tasting.

We have had a lot of interest in purchasing crickets, however we are still refining our offering. We hope to make them available for purchase in the future. Stay up-to-date on any developments on our website and socials.

What happens to the cut flowers and produce?

All flowers and produce from the farm are sold to our partners or to visitors. We have frequent harvest windows to ensure produce is fresh and to minimise wastage. If there is any excess produce, we use it to build our compost, which in turn strengthens the soil health and resilience.

Why isn't regenerative agriculture more widely used if it is beneficial and cost effective?

Transitioning to a regenerative model can involve upfront costs, new skills and short-term uncertainty, which impedes change for farmers operating on tight margins.

Many agricultural supply chains, financing systems and training programs have been built around conventional farming methods, with farming education often being passed down within families from generation-to-generation.

As research, farmer networks and consumer demand grow, adoption is increasing. BPF aims to learn and share practical regenerative approaches.

Do you use the toilet compost in the market garden?

Yes, the compost toilets contribute to the mixed compost used in the SAKG but not on the market garden. It is combined with green waste, animal waste, food scraps, healthy soil, water and aeration to make a nutrient-rich blend that improves soil health and helps plants thrive.

We have 6 compost toilets onsite behind the Potter’s Shed. Instead of flushing with water, waste drops into a large underground chamber. Inside, tiny microbes and oxygen perform aerobic decomposition to break down the waste. A fan provides ventilation to manage odour and moisture. Up to 90% of the pile will shrink over time. Every few years, we collect safe, nutrient-rich compost that we combine with other forms of compost for use around the farm.
